Intercooler spacers

For the coolest off-road drives, keep your engine cooler with intercooler spacers.

For the best off-road experiences, it's crucial that you ensure the air your engine is breathing is as cool and dense as possible, which will optimize the air to deliver effective combustion of your fuel. The cooler your engine is, the more power it will give you... and intercooler spacers will help a lot.

What intercooler spacers do & why your engine needs them.

The cooler your engine is, the more power you'll have at your disposal, it's that simple. Intercooler spacers reduce or completely get rid of the heat generated by your engine by fully containing the airflow between the bonnet scoop and the intercooler.

An important warning... why you need intercooler spacers.

If you install a body lift kit to your vehicle with a top-mount intercooler and bonnet scoop, the bonnet scoop is raised 50mm with the body. The result is that the air stream passing through the intercooler is no longer contained, so the engine's cooling will be negatively affected.

There are a number of fixes, but by far the best action to take is installing an intercooler spacer which captures the air stream within the bonnet scoop's internal rubber boot. If you live in a cooler part of Australia, you might not have to take this action... but if you reside and drive around hotter places or tropical regions, it's an absolute must. And when you do, you should also try installing a slimline intercooler fan to the flange along with a high-end intercooler spacer - there are often mounting holes provided to do this.

A low-speed warning about the need for intercoolers.

A top-mount intercooler fan comes in very handy on your vehicle to remove the heat soak that can gather on top of the engine when driving at low speeds off-road. Because under these conditions, there is not enough airflow through the bonnet scoop to cool the incoming air, which can result in reduced oxygen, low-quality combustion, poorer performance, higher exhaust temperatures, and an increased risk of engine failure.

TOP INTERCOOLER FAN TIP

Having an intercooler fan with your intercooler spacer looks really cool, and it's a look that is only possible to achieve with a body lift... because if you don't have a body lift, there is not enough room between the intercooler and the bonnet to fit one!
